The online file sharing and cloud-based content management service, Box.com, was established in 2005 in California. With office already in Los Altos, San Francisco, Paris and Munich, Box approached Jones Lang LaSalle and Area Sq to help set up their new EMEA headquarters on North Row, Mayfair, London.
Area Sq initially set about understanding Box’s culture and creative style to ensure consistency with the design standard of the new San Francisco offices. Guests are greeted, as they enter the office, by a striking reception where available iPads allow them to log in and browse Box’s services. The stylish use of glass gives them a peek in to the colourful open plan office and the heart of the business.
The reception leads in to a flowing office populated by innovative meeting places and everything from a London taxi made into a meeting room to a visually impressive staff break out area that features exposed services along with timber rafts and wood flooring. Here employees are able to make play table tennis, enjoy catered lunches on banquet style seating and the area also plays host to larger team meetings. This creative approach to the traditional office requirements allows for more collaboration and inspires and stimulates employees to work smarter and in new ways.
Height adjustable work stations, bright accent furniture, colourful write-on walls and a myriad of IT and Audio Visual installations help break up and define the new, flexible office spaces and allow showcasing of Box’s products and services.
Area Sq was determined to make sure that speed of delivery and quality of service were both central to this project to allow Box to settle in and enjoy their new, adaptive environment and continue their growth and development as a company.
“We thoroughly enjoyed working with Area Sq, right from the initial pitch meeting they understood Box's quirky take on office design. They exactly identified Box's needs and brought us an office that perfectly reflects the nature of the Box product - collaboration and sharing of ideas and content," says Fiona Sauer, Office Manager at Box.
